Too Good OST is the revised edition of the evidence based TGFDV After School Activities. It infuses the prevention strategies of the Too Good programs into a modular activity format tailored to the free-form learning space of the after school and out-of-school settings.
Research Based Prevention
Too Good OST promotes a commitment to healthy living and making healthy choices. The activity set introduces, practices, and reviews essential skills including making healthy choices, building positive friendships, communicating effectively, and resisting peer pressure and influence among others.
Active Learning
Too Good OST keeps the students active and engaged with each other in fun, collaborative activities that don’t feel like more school. While they are playing games, telling stories or singing along and dancing to the beat, the students learn and practice their self-efficacy and interpersonal skills.
Flexible
The short format activities can be delivered in a stand-alone implementation or as a booster to extend the reach of an in-class Too Good for Drugs, Seeds of Nutrition, or A Peaceable Place program.
For ages 5-11 years
Too Good OST supports a comprehensive array of prevention priorities to help you make your out of school programs a central part of your broader prevention efforts. The activity set can be implemented as a standalone course or as a complement to an existing Too Good program implementation. The interactive and engaging learning activities engage young learners to develop, practice, and apply essential skills for self-efficacy, healthy development, and academic success. Prevention Education for Out of School Too Good OST is a universal prevention intervention that employs an education strategy to promote social emotional competency and a perception of the harm of engaging in unhealthy behaviors. The learning design targets children ages 5-11 years in an out-of-school setting.
Skills Development Skills development is at the forefront of Too Good OST to prepare students to set reachable goals, make responsible decisions, identify and manage emotions in healthy ways, communicate effectively, and bond with pro-social others. Too Good OST offers ample opportunities for students to learn, practice, and develop key self-efficacy and interpersonal skills. The program’s shared learning dynamic promotes pro-social bonding to reinforce the adoption of healthy social norms, skills development, and other prevention strategies throughout the course.
Sequential Reinforcement Too Good OST equips students with the tools to make informed choices, develop healthy behaviors, and navigate challenges effectively by sequentially layering knowledge and skills development. This approach ensures that the learning is not only comprehensive but also relevant and applicable to the evolving needs and experiences of the students over time. |
Flexible, fun, and easy to teach
Designed for minimal preparation and ease of use. Durable and easy to use materials are designed and constructed for long life in the dynamic out-of-school learning environment.
The activity set can be implemented as a standalone course or as a complement to an existing Too Good implementation.
The scripted activity design facilitates activity pacing, classroom management, and student/instructor engagement. The activity content provides all necessary subject matter information required to deliver the course material.
Activity materials including activity cards, posters, puppets, and other teaching accessories are included in the program kit. Web based activity resources include pre-delivery training guidance, activity instructions and materials, visual displays, and more to simplify activity preparation.
Get Moving! Too Good OST activities get the students up on their feet actively engaging in the learning. The kinesthetic learning design engages the students to learn, practice, and internalize concepts by doing rather than simply listening and observing. The interactive social learning games enhance retention and understanding while fostering a love for learning by making it active, enjoyable, and fun.
All Together Now The cooperative and collaborative learning strategies encourage students to move and engage with their peers in meaningful ways as they learn together. Through small group and team activities, students learn to appreciate diverse perspectives and enhance their problem-solving and critical thinking abilities. By working together towards common goals, the students develop lifelong skills that prepare them for future academic and personal success. Group activities, games, and experiential learning design instill knowledge to promote effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities and attitudes. |
