Implementation Center

Implementing an evidence-based prevention education program like Too Good for Drugs or TGFV A Peaceable Place / TGFV Social Perspectives is an exciting enterprise that requires organization, planning, and commitment from all stakeholders including organizations and members of the community, implementation sites, and families.  

We built this Implementation Center, in collaboration with the University of South Florida's Institute for Translational Research Education in Adolescent Drug Abuse (ITRE), to illustrate the components and phases of implementation as identified by the National Implementation Research Network to help you maximize student outcomes and achieve a high-quality implementation of Too Good.

Whether you are required to monitor fidelity of implementation by your agency, district, or other funding organization or you choose to do so to meet local or organization-based commitments, we can guide you through each phase of implementation.

The Too Good Implementation Center begins with Phase 2: Program Installation as at this point you have most likely completed Phase 1: Program Exploration and completed its components in scoping your prevention needs, identified solutions, and established the general operating parameters of your program.

Phase 2: Program Installation

Once you have completed your Needs Assessment and identified and purchased your program materials, you are ready to begin the installation process.  Preparing your site(s) to launch Too Good requires an examination and strengthening of the structural and functional components necessary to deliver Too Good consistently with its design and fidelity model.

At the Installation Phase, you will:

  • Establish an Implementation Team
  • Identify and assign Too Good facilitators and classrooms
  • Coordinate Too Good Implementation and Curriculum Trainings
  • Establish a communication process for feedback and reporting
  • Establish coaching and technical support resources
  • Establish monitoring and fidelity adherence systems
  • Distribute your Too Good lesson materials including program kits, student workbooks, and evaluation instruments to the delivery sites
  • Check your grant requirements for reporting and sustainability/scale-up requirements and begin planning your data collection needs

Phase 3: Initial Implementation

Once you have installed Too Good, you are ready to launch with your first cohort of facilitators and students. During the Initial Implementation Phase, you will assess your implementation design and systems.  All of the planning and staff development performed in the Installation Phase will be tested in a pilot delivery of the program to practice delivering the Too Good program to students, practice assessing the fidelity of your Too Good implementation, and resolve any challenges specific to your site.

During the Initial Implementation Phase:

  • Facilitators begin Too Good lesson delivery to students
  • Your Implementation Team will coach and support facilitators, review data, and provide feedback to your program administrator and site leadership

Phase 4: Full Implementation

Once your staff development and organizational structures are operational and working together to monitor and support your Too Good delivery, your Implementation Team will work with your sites to assure fidelity of implementation and prepare all teams to achieve the anticipated outcomes.  You will assess the fidelity of your Too Good implementation again and, this time, report process indicators and student outcomes.

In the Full Implementation Phase:

  • Too Good lesson delivery begins at all program sites
  • Implementation Teams will monitor lesson delivery at program sites to assess program drift, collect and review performance data, and report outcomes data
  • Implementation Teams will provide orientation activities and training to new staff, facilitators, and leaders
  • Implementation Teams will begin planning sustainability activities

Phase 5: Program Sustainability

Ensuring a sustainable implementation is essential to achieve lasting effects of your efforts to implement an EBP like Too Good. Achieving a high level of fidelity of implementation and quality across all delivery sites is key to sustainability.  

In the Quality Assurance Review:

  • Implementation Teams will coordinate Quality Assurance Site visits to assess your implementation quality
  • Implementation Teams can consult your Too Good Implementation Adviser to rate your site’s implementation quality and provide feedback and suggestions for enhancements to your implementation plan
If you are required to monitor fidelity of implementation and quality of program delivery, your program administrator or other governing agency will provide a timeline for administering and completing the Quality Assurance Review process.
