Too Good Programs Sample Lessons

Too Good is an evidence-based comprehensive family of substance use prevention, character development, and violence prevention curricula designed to build protection within children and adolescents.

Thank you for taking the time to visit us and review sample lessons. Below you will find a sample lesson from Elementary, Middle School and High School in each of our evidence-based substance use prevention and violence prevention SEL programs.

Too Good for Drugs is a universal K-12 prevention education program designed to mitigate the risk factors and enhance protective factors related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) use. The lessons introduce and develop social and emotional skills for making healthy choices, building positive friendships, developing self-efficacy, communicating effectively, and resisting peer pressure and influence.

Too Good for Drugs teaches five essential social and emotional learning skills, which research has linked with healthy development and academic success:

  • Setting Reachable Goals
  • Making Responsible Decisions
  • Bonding with Pro-Social Others
  • Identifying and Managing Emotions
  • Communicating Effectively

Lessons are fully scripted and delivered through guided discussions, engaging and interactive activities, role-plays, songs and puppets. Age-appropriate and hands-on opportunities to practice skill development collaboratively make skill development as fun to teach as it is to learn.

We have assembled a selection of sample lessons here to provide a look at how Too Good for Drugs addresses substance use prevention at three developmental levels.

TGFV - A Peaceable Place and TGFV - Social Perspectives provide students with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes they need for positive social development and supportive relationships. Each grade level curriculum builds on the previous year by continually developing skills and addressing common problems faced in youth and adolescence. Additional concepts in the program supplement and reinforce SEL skill concepts and are tailored to the intellectual, cognitive, and social development of the child.

Too Good builds protection within the child by:

  • Providing opportunities for pro-social involvement
  • Establishing positive norms including healthy beliefs and clear standards
  • Promoting bonding to pro-social peers
  • Increasing personal and social skills

Mitigates the risk factors associated with problem behaviors by addressing:

  • Poor Social Skills
  • Peer Rejection
  • Inappropriate Social Behaviors
  • Friends Who Engage in Problem Behaviors

Lessons are fully scripted and delivered through guided discussions, engaging and interactive activities, role-plays, songs and puppets. Age-appropriate and hands-on opportunities to practice skill development collaboratively make skill development as fun to teach as it is to learn.
